I only this day received your letter dated 2nd Novr 23d but have no hesitation in stating, that I have known you since the Year 1826. and from that time. I consider you as a Private Soldier, as Corporal, as Orderly Room Clerk, and as Orderly Sergeant, honest, trustworthy, intelligent, and every way qualified for a very confidential Situation.

We the undersigned having had Opportunities of Witnessing the Conduct of Serjeant-Schro Haterich since May 1841. do Certify that he has during that time Conducted himself very respectably in the situation of Police Serjeant, and so far as may be consistent with the regulations of the Horse Guards, we beg to recommend the prayer of his Petition, to the favourable consideration of the General Commanding in Chief.

I John Hoodford late Order Serjeant in the 23d Regt N. 65. and now serving as a Serjeant in the Lancashire Constabulary force, being desirous of applying for the appointment of Staff Sergeant on the Recruiting service, I hereby certify that his Conduct during the time he has been under my Command, from the 3rd May 1840 to this date, has been most exemplary, and that he has performed his duties with Zeal, Activity, and Judgement - I consider him to be remarkably well qualified for the situation he seeks.

I have great pleasure in certifying that during the time I have known Serjeant Aistero Hectoriěck formerly Order Serjeant 23d Regiment, and now serving as a Serjeant in the Lancashire Constabulary force, he has borne the highest character as a Soldier, and has Conducted himself as an intelligent, and Zealous Non-Commissioned Officer. From the beginning of 1826 to the end of 1837, I remember him in the 23d Regiment, and having been myself Regimental Adjutant upwards of 1½ Years, I had every Opportunity of forming an Opinion of his Character. During the last year he has served under my immediate command in this force, and I can safely say that his conduct has been marked by every quality requisite in a Non-Commissioned Officer. I sincerely hope he may be successful in his present application.

This is to Certify that John Hecterick was appointed Police Constable in the County of Lancashire Constabulary force on the 2nd day of May 1840, was promoted to the rank and pay of Serjeant on the 18th day of Augt 1840. and continued to serve to this date. He is supplied with this certificate with the view of being appointed Serjeant in the Recruiting Staff. His conduct during the period of his service has been extremely good.
